Members of Bangladesh Coastguard seized 42kg of venison from Dhangmari area at Mongla upazila in Bagerhat today.

Acting on a tip-off, a coast guard team conducted a drive in Dhangmari area this morning and seized the venison in an abandoned condition, said a press release signed by Coastguard (West Zone) Intelligence Officer Lt Commander M Mamunur Rahman, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

During the raid, it was not possible to arrest anyone as deer poachers fled the scene after sensing the presence of the coast guard team, the release read.

The seized deer meat were later handed over to Dhangmari Forest Office of the Sundarbans East Forest Department for legal action, the press release added.
