A 5 ft long dead dolphin was found on Kuakata beach in Patuakhali today.

A 5 ft long dead dolphin was found on Kuakata beach in Patuakhali today.

Locals spotted the mammal at Computer Center Point around 11am and informed the Upazila Fisheries Department and Forest Department, said Sagarika Smriti, associate researcher of EcoFish-2 Project in Patuakhali.

She said the dolphin, which is about 5 ft long and 2 ft wide, may have died after getting trapped in a fishing net as it has bruises on various parts of the body.

The mammal was buried later on, he added.

Abdullah Al Mamun, divisional forest officer in Patuakhali Forest Department, said they are concerned about the recent deaths of dolphins.

"Fishermen have been trained several times to protect dolphins. We will take further steps to make the fishermen aware of the issue," he added.
