Dead dolphin found in Padma river

A dead dolphin was found floating in the Padma river in Munshiganj's Louhajanj upazila this afternoon.

Md Salim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Forest Department of Srinagar and Louhajanj, said locals spotted the four feet long dolphin floating in the river near Gaudia Bazar in the afternoon.

"It seems that the dolphin died after getting entangled in a fishing net some days ago in the Padma. Later, it floated in the river," he told our Munshiganj correspondent.

As it had died a few days ago, it was spreading bad odour. So, it was buried, said the official.

Louhajanj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abdul Awal said "We are not sure how it died. We are trying to find those who are responsible for the death of this endangered animal."

Besides, initiatives will be taken to make people aware so that no fishermen or common people kill these animals.
