An ailing elephant died in the reserve forest in the Khuniapalang area of Cox's Bazar's Ramu upazila this afternoon.

The male elephant was aged between 50 to 60 years, reports our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent quoting Nazmul Hossain, range officer of Rajarkul Range under South Forest Division, Cox's Bazar.

"Noticing the sick elephant, which collapsed on the ground this morning, locals informed us. We called the veterinary surgeon from Bangabandhu Safari Park and the livestock officer of Ramu upazila," he said.

The elephant died around 1:30pm, Nazmul said.

No marks of injuries were found on its body.

Nazmul quoting the surgeon, who conducted a primary investigation, said the elephant might have died due to brain haemorrhage.
