Lion died of old age: Cox’s Bazar safari park authorities
A lion has died due to old age complications at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Dulahazara of Cox's Bazar.
Employees of the safari park found the 22-year-old lion, named Sohel, dead yesterday afternoon, the park's Officer-in-Charge Md Mazharul Islam confirmed.
The lion had been suffering from old age complications since 2018, he said.
After Sohel's death, there are two male and two female lions in the park. Sohel was four years old when he was taken to the safari park from the National Zoo in Dhaka's Mirpur on August 29, 2004, the official said.
Chakaria Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr Supan Nandi and the park's veterinary physician Hatem Sajjad Md Zulkar Nayeen conducted autopsy of the lion.
After autopsy, the lion was buried inside the park and a general diary was lodged with Chakaria Police Station, said Mazharul.
