A pangolin was rescued from a house in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area this evening.

A joint team of The Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of Bangladesh Forest Department and Rapid Action Battalion-3 carried out a raid and rescued the pangolin, also known as 'Bon Rui', WCCU inspector Ashim Kumar Mallick, told The Daily Star.

During the drive, a Rab mobile court led by executive magistrate Palash Kumar Bosu sentenced two people to six months in jail each for trading the animal, he said.

They are Kamrul Islam (56) and Md Selim (31).

Ashim said this gang used to collect different types of wild animals from across the country and kept them in a house in Madhubagh area for sale.

In primary interrogation, the convicts admitted that they brought the 'Bon Rui' from Tongi area.

The animal will be released in the forest, Ashim said.
