Collectors got 200-500 grams of eggs from Tuesday night at the Noyahat area of Gorduyara union of Hathazari upazila. Meanwhile, Hathazari upazila administration beefed up their surveillance to prevent the netting of mother fish in Halda, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Kamal Soudagor from Noyahat area, a seasoned egg collector, told The Daily Star that they started coming across the eggs on Tuesday night and hope to see full spawning today.

Professor Manzoorul Kibria, an eminent researcher on Halda, told The Daily Star that these are sample eggs laid by brood fish in preparation for a full spawning.

Ruhul Amin, upazila nirbahi officer of Hathazari upazila told The Daily Star they intensified their patrolling and surveillance to stop poachers as it is high time for them to net mother fish from Halda.
