Cargo with 600 tonnes coal sinks in Pasur river
A cargo ship carrying around 600 tonnes of coal has sunk in the Pasur river in Bagerhat.
The incident took place around 11:30pm on March 3 after the ship "MV Naomi" hit a submerged island near Harbaria-04 anchorage area of Mongla Port, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting Md Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station.
Six sailors and two security personnel on board were able to reach safely to the shore.
The incident came to light last night when the master of the ship Azizul Haque filed a general diary with Mongla police station, 24 hours after the incident, the OC said.
Mongla Port Authority has already ordered removal of the the sunken cargo from the Pasur channel within 15 days, said Captain Shahadat, deputy harbor master of the port.
