Disclose assets annually

Officials from government institutions related to water, river and environment must disclose their assets annually, said former chairman of National River Conservation Commission (NRCC) Muzibur Rahman Howlader.

He made this remark today at a seminar at the National Press Club in the capital.

The Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) and Water Rights Forum (WRF) organised the event.

Addressing the current NRCC chairman, Muzibur Rahman said, "If I stay in Dhaka and don't visit the rivers, how will I protect the rivers?"

The seminar, attended by rights activists and representatives from NGOs, aimed to raise awareness of the importance of river conservation and the role of government organisations in protecting natural resources.
