DoE fines 13 people Tk 32.48 lakh for damaging hills

Department of Environment (DoE), Chattogram fined 13 people Tk 32.48 lakh for damaging hills at Panchlaish area of the port city today.

The fine was imposed on them after a hearing at DoE's Khulshi office.

Mohammad Nurullah Nuri, director of DoE, Chattogram (metro) told The Daily Star that some people have been damaging Nagin Hills at Panchlaish area for a long time now to make space for buildings.

They flattened 32,485 square feet of hill prompting DoE to impose the fine, he added.
