DoE fines 3 industries, 2 individuals Tk 4.7 lakh over environment act violations
The Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram today fined three industries and two individuals a total of Tk 470,000 for violating the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act.
The fines were imposed at a hearing at the DoE Khulshi office in the port city, reports our staff correspondent.
Mohammad Nurullah, director of DoE Chattogram metro, told The Daily Star one Nasir Uddin razed 721 sqft of hills at Baizid area and built a structure without obtaining clearance from the DoE. He was fined Tk 246,000 for the offence.
Another man named Mazharul Islam was fined Tk 25,000 for not obtaining clearance certificate for his structure, said Nurullah.
"Apart from these, Allama Washing Plant, Fabric Connection and Mega Furniture were fined for continuing operation without a clearance certificate and keeping their effluent treatment plant (ETP) shut," he added.
