The Department of Environment (DoE) today fined Ananda Chemicals Industries in Chattogram for keeping their effluent treatment plant (ETP) shut.

The Department of Environment (DoE) today fined Ananda Chemicals Industries in Chattogram for keeping their effluent treatment plant (ETP) shut.

The fine was imposed after a hearing at DoE's Khulshi office today, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

The company was fined Tk3,000 for the offence and asked to pay the fine within seven days, said Mia Mahmudul Hoque, deputy director of DoE Chattogram city.

The DoE also fined local two people -- Nurul Afser and Abu Bakar -- in Patenga area of the port city for filling two ponds and building structures there without obtaining clearance from the DoE, he said.

Nurul Afser was fined Tk 34,000 while Abu Bakar fined Tk 14,000 for over environment act violations, Mia Mahmudul Hoque added.
