DoE fines Tk 55 lakh to 11 brick kilns in Narayanganj
The Department of Environment in Narayanganj today fined 11 brick kilns Tk 55 lakh for operating without any clearance certificate and valid documents.
The owners of brick kilns were told to stop their operations, said Muhammad Abdullah AL Mamun, deputy director of DoE in Narayanganj in a press release sent to media this evening.
According to the release, a mobile court team, led by DoE Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamjeed Ahmed, conducted a daylong drive at 11 brickfields in East Gopalnagar and Dharmaganj areas in Narayanganj's Sadar upazila.
During the drive, the magistrate fined each company Tk 5 lakh and collected the money immediately. At the same time, the court ordered to stop the activities of the brick kilns.
The action was taken as the brick kilns did not have up-to-date environmental clearance certificates and brick-burning licenses to operate.
Besides, the brick kilns are set up at a distance of one km from an educational institution, added the release.
The 11 brick kilns are Ms Khadija Bricks, Ms Nazrul Bricks Manufacturer, ASB Bricks, Messrs Bokhari Bricks, Ms SS Bricks, ANS Bricks, Ms Chistia Saberia Bricks, Ms NBM Bricks, Ms Azad Enterprise, Ms Nizam Uddin Bricks and Ms Taj Bricks.
