DoE partially demolishes, fines 10 brick kilns in Dhamrai

The Department of Environment (DoE), in a drive today, partially demolished 10 brick kilns and fined the owners Tk 50 lakh for running business without licenses and not having legal documents.

DOE Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamzid Ahmed said the mobile court conducted the daylong drive in Kalampur and Modhudanga areas under Dhamrai.

The drive began in Modhudanga area around 11am and ended in Kalampur area around 4:30pm, reports our Savar correspondent.

During the drive, six brick kilns -- Modina, MSB-2, MS/Faruk, Nur Bricks, Tuhin Bricks and Marks Bricks -- were fined Tk 6 lakh each as they did not have necessary documents and two brick kilns -- Mokka-Modina and Khan bricks -- were fined Tk 5 lakh, said the magistrate.

Tamzid Ahmed said Rahat Bricks and Kalampur Bricks were fined Tk 2 lakh each. They had some legal papers but those were not adequate.

All the 10 brick kilns were partially demolished and owners were asked to stop their operations, he added. 

The drive against illegal brick kilns will be continue, said the executive magistrate, who led the drive.

"We are conducting drive against illegal brick kilns which are posing threat to environment and human health," the magistrate also said.
