The government has taken an initiative to protect native species of trees, said Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin.

"The government has taken an initiative to prepare a red list of different species of plants which are at risk of extinction," he said.

The government will introduce a strategic plan for protecting native plants and forest resources, which will help achieve Sustainable Development Goals, he said.

The minister said this during a workshop on 'Preparation of national red list of different species of plant in Bangladesh and innovation of foreign aggressive plants management for the designated forests' as a chief guest in the city.

He urged everyone to work together to protect forests, wild animals and the environment.
