HC issues status quo on earth filing, construction in Gazipur Loblong canal

The High Court today issued an order of status quo on the earth filing, encroachment and construction of embankment and structures in Loblong Khal (canal) at Gazipur's Kapasia.

The court also directed the deputy commissioner of Gazipur and assistant commissioner of land of Kapasia to conduct a survey of the canal and to determine its original boundary and to submit a report to it in 30 days.

At the same time, the court issued a rule asking authorities concerned of the government to explain why their inaction in stopping earth filing, encroachment and construction of embankment and structures in Loblong Khal should not be declared illegal.

The HC of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir came up with the order and rule following a writ petition moved by lawyer Manzill Murshid on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh seeking necessary directives to this effect.
