A mobile court of the Department of Environment (DoE) today (November 1, 2022) disconnected the utility services—gas and power – of four factories in Rupganj and Araihazar upazilas of Narayaganj for not having effluent treatment plants (ETPs) to treat their waste.

A mobile court of the Department of Environment (DoE) today (November 1, 2022) disconnected the utility services—gas and power – of four factories in Rupganj and Araihazar upazilas of Narayaganj for not having effluent treatment plants (ETPs) to treat their waste.

The factories were carrying out production activities without ETP and their liquid waste went directly into the river through the canal and polluted the old Brahmaputra and Shitalakkhya rivers, said Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy director of DoE in Narayaganj.

Besides, one of the four factories had no environmental clearance as well as ETP activities for its operations, he told our Narayanganj correspondent.

According to a DoE press release, a mobile court team led by executive magistrate Kazi Tamzid Ahmed raided the four factories today and took action against them.

The four companies are Mayer Doa Dyeing (Roman News Colour Dyeing), Mariam Textile, Sadika Textile of Araihazar upazila and Kamal Steel Mills (Wakif Metal Industries) of Rupganj, added the release.
