An intensive care unit (ICU) was installed at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital with three ICU beds yesterday for treating critically ill Covid-19 patients.

The ICU unit, which was installed on the second floor of the 150-bed building of the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, was officially inaugurated yesterday afternoon, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

Sheikh Tanmoy, lawmaker from Bagerhat-2 constituency, donated the ICU beds from his own fund, said MP Sheikh Tanmoy's private secretary HM Shahin, who was present at the inauguration.

Speaking on the occasion, Bagerhat Civil Surgeon KM Humayun Kabir said there are 50 beds with Central Oxygen supply for Covid-19 patients at the hospital but it had no ICU facility.

"We are treating patients with the utmost sincerity. As we had no ICU here, we had to transfer serious patients to Khulna. As a result, many patients were in danger. Three ICU beds have been attached here today [Friday]. As a result, we will be able to treat critically ill patients," said the civil surgeon.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner ANM Faizul Haque said these ICU beds will play an important role in the treatment of coronavirus patients.
