Covid-19 patient dies after receiving news of her newborn’s demise

A Covid-19 patient died today at the ICU of Cumilla Medical College Hospital, after reportedly failing to cope with her newborn's death.  

Dr Sajeda, deputy director of the hospital, confirmed the incident, reports our local correspondent.

She said Farzana Akhter (20) was admitted to the coronavirus unit of the hospital on May 16 after contracting the virus during pregnancy. She gave birth to a baby boy yesterday evening who died 12 hours later.

Upon hearing the news of her baby's death, Farzana was unable to bear the grief and removed her oxygen mask. Some time later, around 6:30am, she took her last breath, Dr Sajeda added.

Cumilla Civil Surgeon Dr Mir Mubarak Hossain said that 33 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in 24 hours in Cumilla and one patient has died.
