Struggling to cope with the severe second wave of the coronavirus, India today decided to inoculate people with Covid-19 vaccines at work places (both public and private sector) from April 11.

The Indian health ministry today sent letters to all states and territories in this regard, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

The existing Covid Vaccination Centres (CVC), will continue their inoculation service as before, it said.

"A substantial part of the population is in the organised sector of the economy and are involved in formal occupation in offices (government and private) or manufacturing and services," an official statement said.

As per the recommendation of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC), the prioritised group of beneficiaries for Covid-19 vaccination has already been expanded to cover the general population aged 45 years and above from April 1 this year. Before that, only healthcare and frontline workers and people above the age of 60 were covered by the vaccination, it added.
