The local administration of Benapole municipality and Sharsha upazila have announced a strict lockdown for seven days amid the spread of Covid-19, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Land Port Police Station Mamun Khan said, kitchen markets and grocery stores will be kept open from 6am to 12pm, and medicine shops will be open all day. Public transports are suspended, only emergency vehicles can run.

All kinds of public gathering have been prohibited, said the OC, adding that police patrol has been intensified, especially to prevent Indian truck drivers from getting out of the land port.

Those who are engaged in import-export related works will be able to work in customs and land port area, said the OC.

Meanwhile, Sharsha upazila Health Officer Dr Yusuf Ali said, in 24 hours till this morning, 29 people tested Covid-19 positive out of 57 samples tested.
