4 more dengue patients die, 278 hospitalised in a day

Four more died while 278 were hospitalized with dengue fever in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the 278 new cases, nine are from outside Dhaka, confirms DGHS.

5,092 out of the total 7,750 infected with dengue were diagnosed in August. Of the total infected, only 425 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June, while 43 were infected in May.

According to DGHS, 35 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year. All deaths were in July and August.

Twelve people died in July, while 23 died in August so far.

Though most patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,206 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals across Dhaka, and 87 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
