Dengue cases cross 13,000 mark

One more died while at least 317 new dengue patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am today. With the new cases, a total of 13,007 people were hospitalised with dengue fever this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the 317 new cases, 58 are from outside Dhaka while the total number of dengue cases outside Dhaka stands at 1,250.

A total of 2,651 were diagnosed in September alone.

At least 7,698 patients were hospitalised in August, 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June, and 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.

Fifty-four people have died of dengue infection in the country this year. Twelve people died in July, 34 have died in August, and eight have died in September so far.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,254 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 170 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
