Dengue fever: 2 more die, 278 hospitalised in a day

Two more died while at least 278 more dengue patients were hospitalized in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the 278 new cases of dengue infection, 48 are from outside Dhaka.

Notably, 6,195 out of the total 8,853 infections were diagnosed during August alone. Of the total infected, 605 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June while 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.

Until now, 40 people have died of dengue infection in the country. Twelve people died in July while 28 have died in August so far.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,090 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 103 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
