Dengue fever: August records over 7,000 cases

One died and at least 252 more dengue patients were hospitalized in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the 252 new cases, 50 are from outside Dhaka.

Approximately 7,199 out of the total 9,857 infected were diagnosed in August alone. Of the total infected, 771 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June, and 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.

Forty-two people have died of dengue infection in the country this year. Twelve people died in July, while 30 died in August so far.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,123 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals across Dhaka, and 143 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
