Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Md Atiqul Islam today said everyone will have to play their parts properly and not play the blame game to control Aedes mosquitoes, carriers of both the dengue and chikunguniya viruses.

Addressing a virtual discussion on World Mosquito Day-2021, the mayor said the main theme of the Day is "achieving the zero target of malaria" and the theme was selected to make people aware of the harm of mosquito-borne diseases.

He said dengue, chikungunya and malaria are significant mosquito-borne diseases, and it is possible to check the spread of such diseases by destroying mosquito breeding sources.

The mosquito control will have to be done incorporating people of all walks of life, including ward councillors, he said.

Atique said training programmes for mosquito control workers and supervisors should be arranged.

He said they have already introduced a biometric attendance system for mosquito control workers and directed officials concerned to take necessary steps to ensure it.

Mayor Atique also directed officials to inform owners of empty plot owners through letters to take necessary steps to destroy breeding sources in those sites.

He also directed officials concerned to take necessary steps to identify hot spots of Aedes mosquitoes.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Md Zobaidur Rahman, ward councillors and other DNCC officials, were present at the event.
