Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) has organised the 9th regional public health conference on its campus.

Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) has organised the 9th regional public health conference on its campus.

The inaugural ceremony of the two-day long conference was held at 10:00am today at the university's conference hall, according to a press release.

Prof Dr Md Anower Hussain, dean of the Faculty of Public Health at BUHS, chaired the inauguration ceremony.

The special guests at the event were: Md Ashadul Islam, former senior secretary, Planning Division of the Ministry of Planning; Prof Dr Faridul Alam, vice-chancellor of BUHS; Prof Shah Monir Hossain, President of Public Health Association of Bangladesh; and Dr AM Parvez Rahim, joint secretary, Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Addressing the event, Md Ashadul Islam said that public health experts, academicians and medical specialists would definitely contribute to the improvement of the global health care delivery systems by sharing their innovative ideas, proven knowledge and experience.

BUHS VC Prof Dr Faridul Alam said that 80 percent diabetes, heart and blood pressure-related diseases might be reduced by building awareness among the people, and public health professionals of the country are significantly contributing to prevent people from health hazards.

Six scientific paper sessions, five symposiums and eight plenary sessions are going to be held in the conference.

Around 400 public health professionals, physicians, academicians and researchers are participating in the events.

The conference will conclude on February 26 at 4:00pm with a closing ceremony.

Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), will be present at the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
