The Palliative Care Society of Bangladesh (PCSB) hosted a special event at the Momatamoy Korail Centre in Korail, Banani, Dhaka, today to mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, themed "Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care."

Palliative care provides physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support to people living with life-limiting or complex long-term illnesses, aiming to improve their quality of life. Its primary goal is not to cure the illness but to ensure a dignified and comfortable life for patients.

Winners of art competitions and other contests, held earlier in five local schools in Korail, were presented with certificates and prizes.

PCSB member Dr Nurjahan Begum said, "Today's event reaffirms our commitment to this humanitarian responsibility."

Secretary Prof Sanjida Shahria added, "It is vital to spread messages of love and care to those at the end of life. Initiatives like this help foster a sense of humanity across society."

She further noted that since 2015, PCSB's Momatamoy Korail Project has provided free palliative care services, medical assistance, and psychological counselling to underprivileged and vulnerable communities in Korail. The event was attended by PCSB President Dr Naeem Ahmed, Prof Nezamuddin Ahmed, Treasurer Salauddin Ahmed, child specialist Dr Nurjahan Begum, Project Director Dr Tasneem Jarin, and other officials.
