With the end of yet another semester, many have just finished their life at university and is ready to embark upon a whole new journey- that of an employee. As we go around from place to place, hunting for jobs, here are five tips for you to remember as new office-goers.

1 * Ask a lot of questions: to learn about the culture of your office space and also make acquaintances, it is important that you ask questions. The main answers you want to get from your employers are of these questions- What are the most important parts of the job I should master during my first few weeks here?, Who are the key people I should meet, and what should I learn from them?, What processes and procedures are most critical to this group, and what is the best way for me to learn them? And what is the best way to communicate with you and keep you updated on my progress?

2* Arrive early, leave late: It is very important for you to make a good, lasting impression on your employer and colleagues, for which, the first few months you have to work a little extra-hard till your boss knows your true potential. And always, before you leave, ask around if there is anything left to be done or anything you can help with.

3 * Connect outside the office: Don't let your colleagues think ill of you at all. Share, be kind, and it's always nice to spend some time with them after work hours to get to know each other. Your boss will notice what kind of team player you are and having a good relationship with other colleagues will definitely earn you brownie points.

4* Take on the dirty work: If there is anything 'extra' to be done, do it. If there is anything hands on to be done, which no one else wants to do, take one for the team. Always remember, you are new and your every move will count. Early in your job, there will be few posts below you. You have to take on the load and remember, everyone has to start somewhere.

5* Fit in: Each department and organisation has unwritten codes of conduct. The earlier you learn about these unspoken rules, the better. You may find that you disagree with how things operate in your new organisation, but bite your tongue! If you start critiquing your new employer, you'll probably come across as a complainer or a know-it-all.

Here are some very basic tips to get you through the first few months at a new job. One thing you have to keep in mind at all times is that you have eyes kept on you at all times and not just by your employer. Make friends, be kind, share opinions, ask questions and most importantly show your potential and dedication- with these in mind, be prepared to soon become a part of the team!
