Covid-19 aid: First consignment of oxygen cylinders from US reaches India

The third shipment containing 280 oxygen concentrators from the UK and another flight with a consignment of 80 oxygen concentrators and 75 oxygen cylinders also arrived from the UK and Romania respectively, reports our New Delhi correspondent. 
As India inched towards the daily infection of four lakh and the demand for hospital beds and medical oxygen spiked sharply, the military transport flight from the US carrying 423 oxygen cylinders with regulators and other medical supplies reached New Delhi this morning, the Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson tweeted.
US President Joe Biden has pledged sustained support to India in its fight against Covid. "Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need," Biden said in a tweet.
The United States is "delivering supplies worth more than $100 million in the coming days to provide urgent relief to our partners in India," State Department spokesman Ned Price had said on Thursday.
More than 40 countries have committed to help out India with essential medical supplies.
