The convicts are Md Farid Sheikh, 42, and Md Jakir Sheikh, 34, of Sardar Kandi village in Sakhipur thana, reports our local correspondent quoting court sources.

Judge Abdus Salam Khan of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Shariatpur announced the judgment in presence of the accused, Firoz Ahmed, special public prosecutor of the tribunal, told The Daily Star.

The judge said the prosecution was able to prove the charges brought against the accused without any doubt, so they [accused] deserved the highest punishment for their "heinous offences".

According to the case statements, the 11-year-old went to Shakhipur Government Primary School to play on the morning of July 15, 2017.

Her neighbours, Farid Sheikh and Jakir Sheikh, took the victim to the house of one Alauddin Sheikh and raped her that day.

On July 22 that year, police recovered the body on information.
