A Satkhira court today jailed 17 accused in cases filed over the series bomb blast by JMB in five places of Satkhira on August 17, 2005.

The court of Additional District and Session Judge Shariful Islam gave the verdict this noon, reports our Satkhira correspondent.

The court sentenced eight of them to 13 years in jail and nine others to different terms. It also acquitted one of the accused, while another had died in 2018, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Abdus Samad.

Three of the convicts -- Fakhruddin Raji, Abul Khayer and Naimuddin -- are absconding, the public prosecutor added.

On August 17, 2005, JMB carried out bomb attacks in Satkhira city's Shaheed Razzak Park, District Court yard, Women and Children's Court yard, bus terminal and Khulna Moar as well as in 62 other districts.

Satkhira police filed five cases in this connection the same year. Later in 2007, Golam Mohammad, the then officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, filed another case in this connection.

The court, however, has acquitted the 23 accused in the case filed by Golam Mohammad in 2007, the public prosecutor also said.
