A court in Kurigram today sentenced six accused to death in a case filed over murder of four members of a family.

The convicts are: Momtaj Uddin, Nazrul Islam alias Majnu, Amir Hamza, Zakir Hossain, Jalal Gazi and Hasmat Ali. Of them, Jalal Gazi remains absconding.

Kurigram District and Sessions Judge's Court Judge Abdul Mannan also acquitted another accused -- Naimul Islam -- around noon today, Public Prosecutor Abraham Lincoln told our Lalmonirhat correspondent.

According to the case statement, a group of assailants stormed into one Sultan Mia's house in Bhurungamari upazila and stabbed Sultan, his wife Hajera, and granddaughters Romana and Anika on January 14, 2014.

Sultan's son Hafizur Rahman filed a murder case with the local police station the next day.

There was a dispute between convict Momtaj Uddin and Sultan over a piece of land, the case statement said.

Momtaj hired the other convicts to kill Sultan and made a deal of giving them Tk five lakh and a piece of land, it added.
