Charges pressed against 24 BCL and AL men over BCL leader Sudipto murder in Ctg

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today pressed charges against 24 leaders and activists of Chattogram city Awami League and its student body Bangladesh Chhatra League in a case filed over the murder of BCL leader Sudipto Biswas in the port city on October 6, 2017.

Inspector Sontosh Kumar Chakma, investigation officer, confirmed the matter today. Sontosh submitted the charge-sheet to the prosecution section of the court last month.

"After analysing the relevant CCTV footage, and the accused who gave confessional statement under Section 164 and other circumstantial evidence, police pressed the charge-sheet in the case against 24 persons," the inspector told The Daily Star.

Of the 24 accused, 18 were arrested. Of them four gave confessional statements in the case.

Sudipto, a master's student of Government City College and an assistant general secretary of Chattogram city unit of BCL, was beaten to death in front of his house in the port city's Sadarghat area.

After the murder, the victim's father filed a case accusing four unidentified men with Sadarghat Police Station.
