A college teacher from Pabna, who was arrested in Kushtia in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, was denied bail by a court today.

Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Towhidul Islam denied the bail petition of Rajibul Alam (52) after he was arrested for making negative remarks about an Awami League leader, said Onup Kuman Nandi, public prosecutor of the court.

Rajibul, a teacher of Pakshi Railway College in Pabna on December 4 last year, made negative comments about Kushtia Sadar Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata in a Facebook post after miscreants vandalised an under-construction mural of Bangabandhu, according to the case statement.

Kushtia Sadar Jubo League leader Md Mizanur Rahman Miju filed the case on December 14 with the Kushtia Model Police Station against the teacher.

Ata is a relative of Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif.

After the case was filed, Rajibul took interim bail from the High Court for eight weeks. After the bail period ended, he surrendered before the Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate court on February 18 this year and sought bail again.

Judge Syed Habibul Islam of the court after hearing the bail petition, denied the teacher's bail and ordered to send him to jail.
