The High Court today cleared the way for the lower court concerned to resume the trial proceedings against two sons of Partex Group's former chairman MA Hashem and six former officials of Rajuk in a corruption case filed on charge of illegally obtaining land in Purbachal.

The accused are MA Hashem's son Shawkat Aziz Russell, and Ashfaq Aziz Rubel; Rajuk's former chairman Iqbal Uddin Chowdhury, and five former officials of Rajuk-- SD Foyez, AKM Wahedul Islam, SM Jafarullah, HM Jahirul Haq and Rezaul Karim Tarafdar.

The HC also rejected two petitions filed recently seeking a stay on the trial proceedings of the case against the accused.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim came up with the verdict after hearing the petitions, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star.

He said the HC on November 14 last year stayed the trial proceedings against Russell and Rubel and issued a rule asking the ACC and state why the trial proceedings against them should not be scrapped.

Trial proceedings of the corruption case against all accused will go on following the HC verdict, he added.

The ACC filed the case with Motijheel Police Station in 2017 against eight accused including Russel, Rubel, also a director of Partex Group, and Iqbal Uddin Chowdhury.
