Kushtia SP’s misbehaviour: HC orders IGP to provide security to Bheramara presiding officer
The High Court today directed the inspector general of police (IGP) to provide security to Kushtia's Bheramara Presiding Officer Shahjahan Ali and his family, after he claimed to the court that he was called to Daulatpur Police Station and was forced to sign some papers.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order at a virtual proceeding.
"Zahurul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, kept Shahjahan for over an hour. Later, he was forced to sign some papers," Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan told The Daily Star.
Shahjahan appealed to the HC to "protect" him and his family members, the lawyer said.
"No one was called at the police station and no signature was taken from anyone," Zahurul told this newspaper over phone.
During the Bheramara municipality polls on January 16, Shahjahan witnessed the "offensive behavior" of Kushtia SP and his subordinates with a senior judicial magistrate at the Bheramara Pilot Model High School polling centre.
The IGP was ordered to provide security to Shahjahan and his family members till January 25, as another HC bench is scheduled to hold a hearing on a contempt of court rule issued against SP Tanvir on that day, said Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi.
