Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today said Supreme Court judgements and orders delivered in English will be translated to Bangla through software depending on their need.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today said Supreme Court judgements and orders delivered in English will be translated to Bangla through software depending on their need.

The verdicts and orders will be translated into Bangla so that most of the people can easily understand them, he said.

The chief justice made the remark while speaking to media after paying homage to the 1952 Language Martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar this morning, Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman told The Daily Star.

Around 50 judges from the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC, along with Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, placed floral wreaths to the Central Shaheed Minar to pay respect to the language heroes, he said.

The SC authorities on February 18 unveiled 'Amar Vasha' software, which uses artificial intelligence to translate orders and judgments of the apex court from English into Bangla.

The software was developed with 'EkStep' Foundation of India, based on the original 'Anuvaad' software used in India similarly to translate from English to Indian languages including Bangla, according to a statement of the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.

Anuvaad was deployed by the Supreme Court of India as SUVAS ie 'Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software' from November 26, 2019.
