Shariatpur court to deliver verdict in double murder case filed 19 years ago
The verdict of a murder case filed 19 years ago, over the deaths of Public Prosecutor Habibur Rahman and his brother, will be delivered by a Shariatpur court on March 9.
Judge Md Showkat Hossain of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court in Shariatpur set the date this noon, Aminul Islam Hiron, bench assistant of the court, told The Daily Star.
The arguments from both the prosecution and the defence were completed on February 25, said Public Prosecutor Mirza Md Hazrat Ali.
Among the 53 accused, 13 are now on bail, 26 are behind bars, another 13 are on the run, and one died during the trial.
Shariatpur district court's Public Prosecutor Habibur Rahman, also joint general secretary of district unit of Awami League, and his brother Monir Hossain were shot dead at their house in Sadar upazila while campaigning for the 8th parliamentary polls on October 5, 2001.
