Tk 80 lakh recovery: HC clears way for trial against ex-DIG prisons Partha Gopal Banik
The High Court today cleared the lower court concerned to continue the trial proceedings against Partha Gopal Banik, a suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division, in a case filed over the recovery of Tk 80 lakh from his residence in Dhaka.
The court also rejected a petition recently filed by Partha Gopal seeking cancellation of the charges brought against him and sought bail in the case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order considering that the petition was not presented properly before it.
Following the order, there is no legal bar for the lower court concerned to continue the trial proceedings of the corruption case against the accused, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star.
Lawyer Abdul Matin Khasru appeared for Partha Gopal while lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission during the hearing.
A Dhaka court on November 4 last year framed charges against the accused in the graft case.
