Bengal Cinematheque — La Notte (Antonioni), Days of Heaven (Malick)
Date: 6-7 June
Venue: Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct, 64-65 Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Kawran Bazaar
Bengal Cinematheque invites you to the third and last month of their inaugural cycle of films focused on the nature of the spirit.
La Notte (to be shown on Saturday, 6 June 2015, at 6.30pm) is a story about a husband and a wife suffering in a stilted, sick marriage. The film mirrors this in the intellectual ecology they inhabit. A friend dies in moral agony. They go to a decadent party and the night becomes wild. They both stray and play games until dawn. Neither knows what they mean to each other but they feel both dependent and apart.
Days of Heaven (to be shown on Sunday, 7 June 2015, at 6.30pm)is set out in the golden plains of 19th century America, focusing on the drifting communities that farm the land of rich farmers. A secretive young couple in love and a child narrator are involved in a gothic plot to steal the lands of a dying farmer. Love is confused by greed and godlike nature is unmoved by tragedies.
Bengal Cinematheque presents the films and ideas of cinema's greatest auteurs, shown at the highest quality, to help build a community of emerging film-makers, writers and programmers in Bangladesh.
Entry is free. Doors close at 6:30pm.
