The lighting system in the approach area of Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport runway that remained underwater due to the flood, is now being tested.

The lighting system in the approach area of Sylhet's Osmani International Airport runway that remained underwater due to the flood, is now being tested.

If there is no problem with the lights, and if there is no more rain in the coming days, the airport will be opened to flights.

State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali said this while talking to reporters after visiting Sylhet Osmani International Airport today.

Flight operations at the airport remained suspended since Friday as the runway went under water due to ongoing severe flooding in Sylhet.

The state minister said although the flood water has receded from the runway and the approach area, they will have to check whether the lighting system remains functional.

"A team of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has already reached the Sylhet airport to check whether the lighting system was working properly," he added.

In addition to operating domestic flights by all three local airlines of the country, Biman Bangladesh operates three weekly flights on the Sylhet-London route.
