A student of Guru Shubinoy Roy, Maya Chakrovarty is the first guest artiste of the new cultural organizationAmaar Bangla. The group invited the eminent artiste from West Bengal to be with them on their first performance on 10th July at the NatMandal auditorium. Beginning its journey with the slogan 'To lose trust on human is a sin', the organisation is committed to do research work as well as publication on art, culture and politics of the country.

One-minute silence for the late poet Subhash Mukhopadhaya and the victims of the recent launch capsize was observed in the begining of the programme. Kamal Lohani, co-ordinator of the organisation said, 'We seek refuge to the poet, to fight the evil prevailing in the society. This poet is none other than Rabindranath Tagore, who said that to lose trust on human is a sin. We have committed this great sin and that is why the anti-liberation-force can keep us in the dark. This situation needs to be changed for which the organisation Amar Bangla is formed.'

Maya Chakrovarty thanked the people of Bangladesh in her speech and said, 'I am overwhelmed and speechless for the cordial welcome by you. I have rarely seen such pure love and sincerity, as I am experiencing here.' Veteran singer Husna Banu Khanam also spoke at the occasion. Husna Banu Khanom gave the guest artiste a saree and three books on three great personalities of the country--Jahanara Imam, Sufia Kamal and Neelima Ibrahim, as gifts.

Later a cultural programme followed. Dalia Ahmed, Bhaswar Bandopadhyay and Shagor Lohani recited the poems Biday Abhishap and Biday by Rabindranath. Azizur Rahman Tuhin sang Barshan mondrito andhakarey eshechhi and Krishnokoli ami tarei boli while Aditi Mohsin performed two other Tagore songs--Shawono gagane ghor ghanaghata and Megher porey megh jomechhe. At the end of the programme the long awaited guest artiste Maya Chakrovarty sang some melodious numbers--Abar eshechhe Ashar akash chheye, Aj sraboner amontroney, Aji Bangladesher hridoy hotey and other Tagore songs.
