Apurbo: Getting to know the model

A recent ad, featuring a hospital, was quite popular because of its models, jingles and camera work. In the commercial a young man named Ashiq, living abroad, gets worried after a phone call from his mother. The latter says that his father, a heart patient, is severely ill. When Ashiq gets home after arranging for the treatment of his father abroad, he finds that his father is doing fine as he was admitted to a local cardiac hospital.

Ziaul Faruq Apurbo, the model who played Ashiq, has become a familiar face on small screen because of this commercial.

"I wanted to become a model from my early teens. My friends used to encourage me too," says Apurbo. However, it was only in 2004 that he applied for the You Got The Look contest. On the first day, he was very nervous seeing all the confident contestants. "After the primary selection I became confident about my appearance. My confidence increased when I scored well in the various steps of the competition. At the final round I was so excited and serious about the contest that I was in a do or die state," says Apurbo. He won the best hair title at the competition.

Apurbo appeared as a model in Nescafe, Apex Shoes, Aktel, Kay-Craft, and in the catalogue for Hotel Sheraton. He has also compered a lifestyle programme titled Rupkatha on television. He took part in many fashion parades choreographed by popular model Tupa and Shumon. He is also working in a couple of television plays.

"I prefer the brand names and am selective about television commercials," says Apurbo.

Apurbo doesn't have idols. As he says, "I want to be the ideal model for everyone." The models he admires are Shimul, Faysal and Nobel at home and Milind Soman and John Abraham abroad.
