Banhishikha: Aiming to promote Gono Sangeet

Air Vice Marshal AK Khondokar (Retd) inaugurated the organisation by lighting a lamp. Theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar was the special guest at the programme.

In her welcoming speech, singer Rupu Khan, the founder member of Banhishikha, said, "We hope to preserve the rich tradition of our music through our activities."

Majumdar said, "We have to fight against various evils through our cultural activities. And I hope Banhishikha will play a role in this movement."

Khandokar said, "The songs of the masses aired on radio encouraged the freedom fighters to fight for our Liberation. I believe Gono Sangeet can still play a role in inspiring people to fight for their rights."

Golam Kuddus, the founding president of the organisation, who chaired the event, said, "Because of infrastructural limitations, plays and dances cannot be presented everywhere. However, music does not have such technical limitations."

Poet Shamsur Rahman, slated to be chief guest, could not make it because of his ill health. However, he sent a congratulatory letter on the founding day.

After the discussion, members of the organisation presented songs of different genres.
