"Bengal Bikash" contestants perform in Jessore

The talent hunt by Bengal Foundation,Bengal Bikash, has completed its pre-finals. One hundred aspiring singers have been selected to participate in the finals and among them, 10 are from the Khulna division. They are: Arifuzzaman, Nahid Sultana and Shumona Rahman inadhuniksongs category; Raja Miah and Pijush Kanti Sen in folk songs; Dhrubo Biswas in Nazrulsangeet; Dibakar Biswas in Tagore songs and Debolina Sur, Tawhidul Islam, Haridas Burman in 'songs of three poets' (Atul Prasad, DL Roy and Rajnikant Sen).

A musical programme where the finalists from Khulna division performed was recently held at Jessore Zila School auditorium. Local music institutions -- Surbitan, Surteertha, Surdhuni and Udichi Shilpi Goshthi -- associated Bengal foundation in organising the programme.

The objective of the event was exposure of the talented young artistes to the people of Khulna. The event became a memorable one with the artistes rendering songs, varying from classics to folk to contemporary. Veteran singers of the region attended the event and expressed their contentment at the progress of the talent hunt in showcasing the aspiring artistes.

Bengal Foundation is holding a similar programme featuring the finalists from Chittagong division. The programme will be held today at Chittagong Theatre Institute.
