Biswabina's paean to spring

Artistes of Biswabina celebrated spring at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy
Celebration ofBasanta(spring), the Bangla year-ending season, always seems to remain incomplete without Rabindra Sangeet. Indeed, every Bangali knows that the treasure of about 100 songs onBasantafrom Rabindranath Tagore's Nature Phase contains the best paeans to the Spring ever made in Bangla . Presenting 26 songs from this rich treasure, cultural group Biswabina celebrated Basanta at the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Academy on March 12. The musical soiree was titledAji Basanta Jagroto Dwarey.

Most of the 26 songs presented by Biswabina artistes were taken from the Nature Phase of Rabindranath's songs. Only 4 songs came from other phases--Aji bohicchey Basanta pabon from the Puja Phase, Boney jodi phutlo kushum from the Prem Phase, Tui re Basanta shomiron from the Dramatic lyric Rudrachandra, and Rodono bhora e Basanta from the Lyrical drama Chitrangada.

The programme started with two group songs--Aji Basanta jagroto dwarey and Aji bohichhe Basanta pabon. This was followed by solos and a duet with the two concluding group songs Basante phul ganthlo and O re aayre. The duet Phagun haway haway was performed by Juthika Ray and Subir Majumdar.

The artistes of Biswabina included Archana Ray, Tonoya Saha, Shipra Chakravorty, Beena Dutta, Protitee Rahman, Bipasha Chakravorty, Kobita Sutradhar, Samir Ranjan Chakravorty, Lakshmi Rani Ghosh, Sadia Chowodhury, Promod Ranjan Ray, Monjura Yasmin, Farzana Yasmin, Liton Chandra Boidya Khandokar Khairuzzaman Quayyum and others.
