Bollywood inspires Hollywood for a change

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, producer-director of the Hindi film which starred Sanjay Dutt in the role of a thug who enrolls himself in a medical school to regain the confidence of his father, said he had sold the rights to the American film studio which will release it under the title Gangster M.D. It was the first instance of a Hollywood company buying the rights of a Bollywood film and comes as a departure from the normal trend of Hindi mainstream movies being inspired by Hollywood films. The latest two instances of Hollywood inspiring Bollywood are Black starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee and just-released Main Aisa Hi Hoon featuring Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen.

According to Chopra, who co-authored the script of Munnabhai MBBS with Rajkumar Hirani, he would be an executive producer of the Hollywood version of the film.

Chopra is currently busy with the world release of his latest movie Parineeta next month. The film is based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyaya's novel of the same name and has a vintage item number by Rekha.
