Buddahdeb's Kalpurush at Toronto Fest

This was Dasgupta's fourth movie to be shown in the master's section of the festival since 2000. The film is being screened in the festival on September 14, 15, 16 and 17.

The previous films by Dasgupta premiered at Toronto were Uttara in 2000, Mando Meyer Upakhyan in 2002 and Swapner Din (Chased by dreams) in 2003,

The Toronto screening also marks the world premiere of Kalpurush which deals with the equation between a parent and his ward. The European premiere of the film will be held at another film festival early next year.

The film, based on the poet-director's own story, features a protagonist who has his own take on how to carry on life's battle amidst the escapism of his own people.

Starring Prosenjit and Raima Sen, Swapner Din, which fetched Dasgupta this year's Indian National Award for Best Director, revolves around the relationships among three people who chase different dreams in the course of their journey.

About his next project, which will be another feature film possibly starring Rahul Bose again, Dasgupta replied in the affirmative when asked to comment about a recent report that he was contemplating a film on the psyche of a peeping tom, which assumes significance in the wake of multi-media service video clip scandals.

Dasgupta will be remembered for giving us some beautifully-made films like Grihajuddha, Duratwa, Neem Annapoorna, Andhi Gali and Bagh Bahadur.
