Building up mass opinion for acid victims at JU

Organisers and the victims of acid-violence at the foot of the National Memorial

With the objective of building up mass opinion against acid terrorism, a daylong programme was held on the campus with the slogan titled "Don't let a single face be scalded by acid". On this day, the JU campus resounded with the laughter of acid victims along with the chirping of migratory birds. Inaugurated by proctor Ali Akand Mamun a colourful rally was also brought out on the campus and a total of 20 acid victims from Bangladesh Acid Survivors Foundation (BADC), accompanied by students, marched through the campus .The aim was to depict the cruelty of the society which seized their right to a normal life and denied them their due.

Placing wreathes at the National Memorial at around 12:30pm, the acid victims also formed a human chain on both sides of Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of the National Memorial, demanding an immediate end to acid attacks and exemplary punishment of the person responsible. As the evening rolled on, the Jahangirnagar theatre, staged a play titled George Dandiya, written by Moliere and directed by Nazmul Hasan Rubel.
